Mark and Sindi Lohrding, along with Mark’s parents, Arlie and Patricia, own and operate Lohrding Three Bar Ranch Inc. in Comanche and Clark County Kansas. Three Bar Ranch runs both registered and commercial black Angus cattle in a year-round grazing system.
The Lohrdings have been using management intensive grazing for 20+ years utilizing over 100 semi- permanent paddocks. They have recently added their cropland to the grazing system with the use of annual forages. The ranch is currently planting three crops over a two-year span without the use of fertilizer and with only one chemical application per year.
The Starbuck fire, the largest wildfire in Kansas history, burned through the Three Bar Ranch in 2017. Lohrding credits the management prior to the fire for creating a resilient system that reduced the impact on their land.
Mark is the 4th generation of his family to ranch in Comanche County and the 3rd generation to live at the headquarters in North West Comanche County. Mark and Sindi have four children Cole, Cade, Cody, and Hadley who all assist with the family business.
